Birthday :Sept 3,1957 in Winnipeg,MB
Married to Joan (nee Friesen) Nov 1,1980 Three children Paul 27, Naomi 24, Nicole 21.
I started racing MX in Manitoba back in 1974 on a Yamaha MX100, Large Wheel Schoolboy, I won a couple of races that year.
In 1975 I raced a 1974 Honda CR125 in 125 Junior, in 1976 I raced a 1976 Yamaha YZ125X to the Provincial title in that class.
In 1977 I was promoted to Expert Class and I raced a 1977 Yamaha YZ250D and a 1977 Suzuki RM125B. In 1978 I received a sponsorship from a Suzuki dealer I was working for on '78 Suzuki's an RM125C and a RM250C2. In 1979 I got a job at a Yamaha dealership and received a '79 YZ250F and '79 YZ400F. In 1980 I raced primarily a '80 YZ250G but did race a '80 YZ125G and '80 YZ465G at times. In 1981 I got a Honda ride on a '81 CR450R. After '81 I scaled down my racing and rode a variety of bikes, a '78 Honda CR250, a '82 Maico MC490 and an '83 Husky 250CR. I then took off a couple of years and then bought an '84 Suzuki PE175 and started racing AMA enduros in Minnesota, I did that for a few years and took another year or so off from racing. I got the itch to ride again but budget was very small for a bike do I found an old '82 Honda CR250 and fixed it up and raced few hare scrambles then bought an '83 Honda CR480 where I raced a couple of MX's. I then moved to AB in 1997 and raced some MX and CC's with the 480 including an IOTMX . In 2002 I bought a 1996 KTM 300EXC and raced CC's and HS's in AB. I raced the IOTMX in 2003 in Calgary on a 2002 Yamaha YZ250. In 2006 I bought a Gas Gas EC300 and became a GG dealer (part time). I raced some CC's and HS's. I bought a 2007 Gas Gas EC300 in '07 and raced few events. I still have the '07 GG EC300 and race a few CC's and HS's. I started collecting vintage MX'ers quite a few years ago, my first one was a '74 Yamaha MX100 that I still haven't finished. I also have a couple of bikes that need work, a '75 Suzuki TM400 and a '78 Kawasaki KX250A4 (very rare bike and I have #00022). I am in the middle of finishing a '81 Suzuki RM125X that will be for sale after it is done. I have a couple other projects but they will have to wait. I have my own website with lots of pictures of myself and others racers. Here is the link http://www3.telus.net/ClaudeGiguere/
I also started a Facebook group called Manitoba Motorcycle Racing. This group is free to anyone who wants to join. It is a group where anyone can post pictures or stories of racing in MB, the older the better! We have almost 200 members and over 1200 pictures, it is quite awesome!
I really hope that VMX grows in this province and Western Canada. I am a subscriber of VMX magazine , Classic Motorcycles, and Moto Retro Illustrated. I am attaching some of my favourite pics of me.
